| welcome to the Tamboerskloof website |
|
Thank you for looking us up, we hope that you'll find everything you need to know about Tamboerskloof on our site.
This site is a result of a growing community effort that has its roots in our security initiative, the Tamboerskloof Security Initiative.
Our community effort has since taken a different direction and has moved on to focus on uplifting our area, hence the refurbishment of Jurgens Park.
The glue that has held us all together as a community has been our e-mailing list through which newsflashes are sent to residents informing them of anything news worthy in our neighbourhood.
This website is the natural progression of those newsflashes and take us to our next phase. We would like to use this site as a networking tool.
If you are looking for a particular service, use our on-line directory and support local. If you have a product to sell, post it on to our site and tell your community all about it.
If you have a story to tell or some local news, we want to hear about that too.
We would love to receive your suggestions so that we can shape this site to fit our communities needs, e-mail your comments to luci.buckland@telkomsa.net. Welcome to the Tamboerskloof Community!
Tamboerskloof Homeowners' Association is bringing an interactive virtual community to its residents. Due to be officially launched on the 6th of May, the Homeowners' Association have been quietly incubating the project for the last 12 months.
Developed in association with a leading web development company, Tractor Group, and web architect Daryn Smith the web portal makes critical issues such as crime statistics, security advise and newsflashes directly available to its residents.
A free scheme, users are encouraged to subscribe to receive crime bulletins and newsflashes as and when they occur in the community. The initiative developed from a need to increase awareness and prevent crime in the area.
The site also informs on other community issues such as cleaning and greening, recycling, events and how to become involved.
The site is maintained daily by Luci Buckland, chairwomen of the residents association, who previously was communicating to subscribers manually, via email bulletins.
This website was initiated by Sally Scudamore of Tractor Group. Sally was at the time a Tamboerskloof resident and has taken a keen interest in the community initiative. Sally recognized the value a website could bring to our efforts. By reporting crimes directly onto the website and storing that information in a database we start to build a useful history of crime trends in our area which helps us to measure how effective our security initiative is.
Jamil Fisher, also a Tamboerskloof resident, also approached us saying that a website could be a very powerful tool in helping us build our community effort. Jamil suggested that by creating an open community forum we can keep people informed about our community initiatives and encourage them to become involved. And so (living in) the bowl was born.
Typical of most of the initiative that are run in our area the site has been a group effort. Jamil has been supported by Daryn Smith (a web architect) who has worked in co-operation with Tractor to produce one very impressive site.
The launch of the Tamboerskloof.co.za site is the pilot phase to what will become a network of community sites in the city bowl under the umbrella '(living in) the bowl'.
Tamboerskloof has developed a model for community security initiatives, this model has been the basis for a number of other community initiatives including The Gardens Community Initiative, Vredehoek Security Initiative and Woodstock Security Initiative.
The long-term goal is that each community would have their own site sharing the (living in) the bowl portal. This would serve to increase the connectivity of these communities and allow for greater sharing of information and experiences.
If you are interested in running a similar initiative for your community, please contact Luci Buckland, adverts@tamboerskloof.co.za
1. To bring community information to residents quickly and efficiently
2. To increase awareness and crime prevention
3. To encourage residents to 'interact' or provide feedback
4. To build a valuable database of residents profiles
5. To provide a valuable information resource tool by continually adding content
To cover the development and maintenance cost of the site the THOA was originally looking to find a sponsor that would enjoy the coverage the site will bring. In the absence of finding that one sponsor we've decided to open up the site to small advertisers. To get the whole thing up and running we're offering specials for April and May starting at R150 per annum for a business directory listing and going up to R410 per month for animated banner advertising. For more information about advertising on the site please go to http://www.tamboerskloof.co.za/bd_advertise.asp or please contact Sally 021 426 0087, fax 021 426 0059.
We are celebrating the launch of the website on Thursday 6th May at 18H30 at the Cape Milner Hotel. Residents are invited to join us, a cash bar will be operating.
